Ride to work

I didn't manage to forget the way to work over the holidays. Damn. I was hoping to at least get lost.

Motorcycles keep you sane

I keep all the pain and anger and worry on the inside where it chisels ulcers quietly behind a veneer so laid back people suspect its chemically induced.
Maybe its because my parents split up when I was nine and I was a fat kid with glasses and a bum knee. There are a million excuses I don't need to explain the days I feel like getting "Fuck The World" tattooed across my forehead.
Throwing a leg over an obnoxious motorcycle helps bury the anger. So does liquor. But that delays the inevitable though and it comes back compounded by lost sense of purpose and knowledge of time squandered no longer measured in days or months or semesters but years.
Sure the grass is always greener on the other side of "fuck this" and an exhaust note that drowns out responsibility. But life is no movie and you end up alone in the dark after riding off into the sunset.
So I am left riding a big circuit that leads me back to where I started but a little saner for the journey.

Take your bike. Abandon the family and pedal...

commuting

Now that the time has changed and I cannot get a ride in after work, its time to start bike commuting. I still plan to ride the motorbike in the morning, but after lunch, pedal pedal. Its only about 5 miles each way, but lots of dumptrucks and log trucks. Should be fun.
Good thing the folks at work already think I'm nuts. This will really seal the deal.

transmission fixed

trouble with the clutch throwout bearing last week. Got everything taken apart, parts ordered, reassembled - and it works!
The outer thrust washer was completely gone, ground into metal dust. the bearing was in two mangled pieces and the pushrod was a mess.
It shifts better now then when I go it, which leads me to believe that it has been messed up for a loooong time.
While the pipes were off I figured I would paint the rust black, but orange was on sale...and I'm digging it.

Bicycle commuting

I rode the shoveldown to see my dad this weekend and the throwout bearing decided it was time to die. So it did. Took the pushrod and the adjuster screw with it. I tweaked it twice to get enough shfts to get home but now its pulled apart and waiting on parts which of course I have to order because there is no decent shop around here.
Hell, the harley shp doesn't even stock master links anymore so I know they don't have a replacement on the shelf.
So anyway, I figure this is the perfect week to start commuting by bicycle. I got by beater mountain bike sorted out this weekend and rode yesterday afternoon. It is not a bad 5 mile ride, except for all the dumptrucks. I only got a little sweaty, but I solved that problem this morning by wearing a tshirt and folding my dress shirt up in my bag.
Today I will get 4 trips / 20 miles in, but I think when I get the motorbike fixed I will ride it in the am so I can go to the gym and take the pedal bike after lunch. Should be a good way to get another 50 miles in a week and not too much of a hassle now that it is cooler out.
2 wheels good.

Doctors appointment

So I went to the doctor for a physical for the first time in at least ten years. Everything went well till he examined my knees. He said I am really glad that you have staryed exercising, but you have need to quit running or you will have serious knee problems at 50.
It is going to be kind of difficult to do triathlons if I can't run...so I guess there goes that.
Of course it was the same day I bought a tri seat off ebay to go with the aerobars I just got sorted the way I want them.

I hate my knees

Wanted to go for a 3 mile run this morning but had walk more than half because my knees are hurting. Too much too soon I know, but I was getting comfortable with the 4 mile route and now this is a huge step back. Hammering on the bike every time I go out probably isn't helping either, but I want to build up my speed and I am not very patient.
More walking more swimming I guess. Man I hate the pool.

Or my phone, but one is suffering from the retardation because some of my posts are getting lost. Probably mugged and beaten and left strewn about in the dark alleys of the interweb...........

So she finally got a ride in the truck...

Drive chain snapped on the way back to work after lunch. Huge bang. I thought the tranny had blown up. Glad it didn't lock up the rear wheel or I would be typing this from a hospital bed.
I guess I know what i'll be working on this weekend.

Triathlon training....

For some reason I have decided that I need to get in shape. Competition seems to be the bedt motivation although I am pretty good at giving myself a beatdown without any help.

alright so I finally got around to figuring out

how to blog off my phone. and I figure I would use this blog instead of starting a new one. so its not just about motorcycles anymore, because I am way to lazy to have multiple blogs. but whatever. you dont care.

tune your bike and it will love you for it

Havent been riding as much with the weather, work and holidays and I had been putting off all the periodic maintenance crap and it was starting to show.

The bitch was starting to kick back a bit and and be ill about starting with the kicker. And knowing the button is there makes me lazy, because I know if I flood it or it just wont kick I can still make it go.

Anyway, put her up on the lift today, adjusted the clutch, adjusted the chain and got the timing dialed in.

Now she's back to a one kick wonder! Felt so good I went out for a victory lap that turned into a 3 hour ride.
